  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups apples peeled and chopped, firm variety
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch pan or line with parchment.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  • In a larger bowl, whisk oil, brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Gradually stir dry mixture into wet ingredients. Add sour cream and mix until just combined.
  • Fold in chopped apples and any optional add-ins.
  • Spread batter evenly into the prepared pan. Bake 35–40 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Cool at least 20 minutes before slicing. Serve plain or dusted with powdered sugar.

Notes

For best results, chop apples just before baking to prevent browning. Try serving with cream cheese frosting or a drizzle of caramel sauce for extra indulgence.
