Ingredients
  

Cake Batter

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk room temperature
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt

Simple Decoration (Optional)

  • whipped cream for topping
  • fresh berries or seasonal fruit
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line your cake pan with parchment paper.
  • Cream softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the batter, starting and ending with flour. Mix gently until just combined.
  • Pour into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool completely before decorating. Add whipped cream, dust with powdered sugar, or top with fruit for a simple finish.

Notes

For a variation, drizzle with chocolate or lemon glaze, or add a ribbon for special occasions. This cake stores well at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the fridge for 5 days.
