Instructions
Gather your ingredients: milk, sugar, eggs, butter, salt, and vanilla.
In a medium saucepan, warm the milk over low heat until just steaming.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until pale and airy.
Slowly pour the warm milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly.
Stir in the vanilla extract or vanilla seeds.
Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook gently, stirring, until thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon.
Pour into ramekins, cover, and chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
Top with fresh berries, whipped cream, or enjoy plain. This dessert stores well for 3–4 days in the fridge.
