Cake Mix Cinnamon Rolls

You can use boxed cake mix to whip up cinnamon rolls so good, people will think you bought them from a fancy bakery. Soft, gooey, and topped with glaze or frosting, these are a weekend favorite for many.

Ingredients
  

Dough

  • 1 box yellow or white cake mix
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water

Filling

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp butter softened

Glaze

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp milk
  • vanilla extract optional, for glaze

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, flour, yeast, eggs, and warm water. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 50 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle.
  • Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar.
  • Roll the dough into a log and slice into even rolls. Place into a greased baking dish.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • While baking, prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar with milk and a splash of vanilla, if desired.
  • Drizzle glaze over warm rolls and serve.

Notes

Use canned frosting instead of glaze for a quick and tasty hack—just warm it slightly and drizzle on top.
